Review Notes:

  • Modern revamp of an old Victorian Pub, however food is served in a restaurant/dining room area.
  • Ambience was busy and bustling, the staff were uniformed (in tweed) but no fancy table cloths, extensive wine selection and open kitchen added to the restaurant vibe. Not a pub.
  • Consensus on the roast beef was good. As good as we’ve experienced. No other roasts sampled.
  • Good selection of sides, including very crispy duck-fat potatoes.  Good sized Yorkshire puddings. Baby-carrots cooked with garlic were delicious. For the greens, some cabbage that was slightly uninspiring.  But a welcome addition of Cauliflower Cheese, which was delightfully cheesy although somewhat lacking in cauliflower.
  • Gravy was thick, dark and plentiful. Additional serving requested, good size addition.
  • Guinness was served, and good selection of Real Ales.
  • Deserts slightly underwhelming. “Timber Wolf” dark ale suggested as a good desert alternative.
  • Price £21 for the roast beef.
