Review Notes

  • Swanky basement restaurant with lashings of leather and dark wood.
  • Ambience was relaxed, not overly busy at 1pm.  The staff were attentive, friendly and courteous. No fancy table cloths or uniforms that helped maintain the smooth ambience.
  • Only one roast available, Beef. This probably stems from the fact that it is best known for being “one of the best” steak restaurants in London.
  • The beef, as expected, was good. A nice thick slice, cooked medium rare.  Although a few in the party experienced “chewy” mouthfuls.
  • Sides were slightly underwhelming. The obligatory oversized Yorkshire pudding. Roast potatoes were good, but nothing to shout about.  Veg consisted of half a roasted shallot, some deliciously sweet carrots and some very uninspiring “greens”.  Cauliflower cheese was on the menu as an extra, however we did not partake.
  • Gravy was advertised as “bone marrow and onion”, it was plentiful (no seconds requested) and flavourful. But didn’t overwhelm the dish or our palettes.
  • No Guinness or any draft ales. Various bottled ales, porter and lager were sampled.  Usual “craft” fare. However plus points for some rather delightful glass tankards.
  • Dessert selection was disenchanting and were eschewed in favour of a snifter of rather delicious apple brandy.
  • Price £20
